Shopping trip to Benalla: One very easy way for us to inject some more funds into
the drought affected business of Benalla is to spend our money there. As part of the Stonnington Cares project,
a bus will take us there for a Christmas shopping trip. We had a great trip last year, and would love you to join us again this coming November.

Rotarians at Play:
- Our recent Cluster Project: Tree Planting at Dabyminga was a great success, with
Rotarians from Prahran, Malvern, St Kilda, Chadstone-East Malvern, and Albert Park with their friends and families
planting 2200 trees on four sites in the area.
We really appreciated the wonderful morning tea and barbeque lunch so kindly provided by the farming families,
and are looking forward to next years tree planting event.
- Our July Christmas celebration of 2008 was a fabulous, festive Saturday when Lynne Wilton kindly opened
her home and cellar to us.
A lavish fireside dinner of duckling, turkey and venison was prepared by Andrea and
topped off by Peter Schneider's wonderful plum puddings and mince pies.
We were entertained by accomplished soprano,
Lesley Walton, who gave us a deeply moving performance of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon" among other arias and carols.
Her comic "Art is Calling for Me" had all the guests chuckling and calling for more!
It was an evening of fun and good fellowship and $3,000 was raised to support the Stonnington Cares Project.
- One Rotarian recalls:
"When I first joined Rotary it was rather serious, with Rotary songs being sung at meetings.
The song books were not universally popular and a member was heard to mutter 'these songbooks have to go'.
When the books disappeared members blamed each other, but to this day it remains a mystery as no-one owned up."
- Another member fondly remembers early meetings in Allison House, and the gracious central stair with attractive
banisters;
a temptation 'to members and occasional visitors to demonstrate their youthful prowess' and in particular
one joyous
memory of celebrating changeover night, with the Past President's wife sliding magnificently down the banisters.
