Rotary cares for the environment:

Since 2002 Prahran Rotary members have been enjoying tree planting days with a variety of community groups.

Tree planting programs help with protecting bio-diversity, controlling salinity and preservation of ancient trees. The 2004 land care day resulted in over 800 trees being planted on the "Glenurra Landcare" project to prevent soil degradation in the Kilmore area.

Our next tree planting foray is on Sunday 2rd August 2009
Our site will be near Broadford.
The day is planned to be fun for all volunteer Rotarians, their friends and their families. Tasks are planned for all levels of skill, fitness and maturity. Children will be just as useful as others in the group, and it is a good way to encourage their community participation, knowing they are actively helping the nation.
We will organize a bus for the day, and members can be picked up from Malvern Town Hall carpark at 7.00am sharp.
We will go to Broadford, meet a representative from DPI and be guided to our sites. We will have coaching from DPI and local farmers on how to plant the saplings and all planting equipment will be supplied.
Morning Tea will be served, and then at the conclusion around 2pm, a BBQ lunch will be provided.

Our 2008 Tree Planting Day was very successful, with over 60 Rotarians, friends and family from the Cluster Group and Rotary Club of Albert Park planting 2,200 trees!

Rotary has also been involved with Box-Ironbark plantings near Benalla to help restore the habitat for the endangered Regent Honeyeater.
